Time: Jan 24-28, 14:00-15:00

Location: TBD

Course Description:

A brief look at the science — specifically, the materials science — behind objects from daily life. From the organic origins of rubber to the complex phases of chocolate, this class will take a fresh look at the (perhaps seemingly mundane) materials you are constantly surrounded by. Chocolate sampling promised.

Proposed schedule:

  • Introduction to chocolate history geographically (leads to materials available)
  • Molecular interactions to create chocolate
  • Phase diagrams of chocolate
  • Sampling chocolate
